| Giant TCR Advanced SL Team |
| | Mike Cushionbury meets with Giant to learn about a Giant prototype being ridden in the Tour of California Giant has officially introduced its redesigned TCR Advanced SL Team under the High Road team here at the Tour Of California. Though still a prototype bike and considered a "work in progress," Giant's Global Product Manager Andrew Juskaitis says the geometry for the new carbon frame is locked in, but still may make changes with smaller things like the new internal cable routing. The two most notable changes are the square monocoque tube shapes and the radically redesigned top tube/seat tube/seat stay junction. The idea is to get a much stiffer frame without sacrificing ride quality. Juskaitis says that while it is indeed stiffer, it would still deliver a comfortable ride because in his words, "Our team riders on High Road wouldn't accept a crappy riding bike."Also new is the fork, which is designed to improve the descending capabilities of the machine. Interestingly, Giant did not choose to go with a bigger diameter lower bearing to increase the lower end of the head tube; instead engineers increased the surface area of the bearing interface between the fork crown and the head tube. This, Juskaitis says, boosts the contact patch and is more important than simply using a bigger bearing.Watch the video to see Giant Global Product Manager Andrew Juskaitis describe the details of High Road team rider George Hincapie's new '09 model year Giant TCR Advanced SL team. |
