Canon's EOS Rebel XS
	Canon EOS Rebel XS(Credit: Canon USA) Say what you will about the rumor mill, it frequently comes through. In this case, except for the small detail of when it would be available, rumors about the Canon EOS Rebel XS turned out to be true. However, instead of waiting until Photokina to announce it, Canon debuted the new entry-level dSLR today. The new Rebel, which replaces the XTi as the baby of its dSLR line, retains the 10-megapixel CMOS and 2.5-inch LCD, while moving up to the body of the more recent XSi. However, it also uses the newer Digic III processing chip--albeit with 12-bit processing rather than the XSi's 14-bit--so we expect to see some differences in photo quality, especially at higher ISO sensitivities, compared with the XTi. And the XS will ship with the image stabilized version of the EF-S 18-55mm lens; the XTi currently ships with the non-IS lens. Camera Labs Reviews Canon EOS 1000D / Digital Rebel X
	Camera Labs tested out the Canon EOS 1000D / Digital Rebel X recently and even compared it to other DSLRs like the Nikon D60 and the Sony Alpha DSLR-A200. The Rebel X was liked for its stellar image quality, the kit lens and the accurate Live View. However the Achilles heel of the Rebel X is its slow RAW continuous shooting mode and its launch price. The all-important image quality ranked very highly, and the built-in live view was obviously a boon. Granted, the fixed screen and 7-point AF system (versus the 9-pointer on the XTi) were slight bummers, but it still managed to secure an 82% (Highly Recommended) rating.Take a look at the Camera Labs video tour of the Canon EOS 1000D.

Canon EOS 40D owner hacks camera, records silent movie
	Filed under: Digital CamerasThis enterprising EOS 40D owner wants a DSLR that records video, too -- and he's taking action. This hack uses CHDK -- the free firmware enhancement for Canon PowerShot cameras -- and LiveView to capture video to the camera's CF Card. There are still a few issues: LiveView shuts down after a period of inactivity, video can't be transfered via USB, and unlike your $79 consumer grade camera, the EOS 40D won't record audio. But what's a little challenge in the face of a good camera mod? There's no word on file format, frame rate or resolution (though the camera's display weighs in at 320 x 240), but there are lots of other juicy details available once you hit the read link.
